Sleep Consulting Support Across Ontario
When your child isn’t sleeping, everything feels harder. You might be running on little sleep, second guessing yourself, trying advice that worked for someone else, or wondering whether things will ever get easier. Sleep challenges can affect the whole family, impacting stress levels, mental wellbeing, routines, and your ability to enjoy everyday moments together.
At Maluhia Counselling & Sleep Consulting, I provide personalized sleep support tailored to your child’s developmental stage, temperament, and your family’s values. My goal isn’t simply to improve sleep, but to help families feel more rested, confident, and supported moving forward.
Sleep Training Options for Infants & Young Children
From social media to local parenting groups, there is a lot of conflicting information about sleep and a lot of pressure around what parents “should” be doing. The truth is that every child is different, and what worked for one, may not work for another.
Whether you’re navigating frequent night waking, bedtime struggles, nap challenges, early rising, or feeling unsure about where to start, I work with families to create realistic, evidence-informed approaches that feel sustainable for your child and your home.
Support may help with:
Frequent night waking
Difficulty falling asleep independently
Nap struggles
Early morning waking
Bedtime resistance
Sleep regressions
Transitioning out of swaddles, cribs, or co-sleeping
Toddler sleep challenges
Establishing age-appropriate sleep schedules
Creating consistent routines
What Makes Maluhia Different?
Certified Pediatric Sleep Consultant
Sleep consulting is an unregulated field, which means many providers practise without formal certification. As a Certified Pediatric Sleep Consultant, I provide evidence-based guidance tailored to your child’s needs and your family’s goals.
Registered Social Worker With 16+ Years Supporting Families
Sleep does not happen in isolation. Stress, anxiety, major transitions, emotional wellbeing, and family dynamics can all influence sleep. With over 16 years of experience supporting children and families, I approach sleep through a broader lens, considering the whole child rather than focusing only on routines.
Sleep & Emotional Wellbeing Support Under One Roof
As both a Registered Social Worker and Certified Pediatric Sleep Consultant, I understand how closely emotional wellbeing and sleep can be connected. When appropriate, we may explore whether anxiety, stress, emotional regulation, or life changes are influencing sleep challenges. This integrated perspective allows me to support families more holistically.
Is Sleep Training Right for My Family?
Many parents wonder if they should simply “wait it out” or whether seeking support means they’re doing something wrong. It doesn’t help that there is a lot of conflicting information online. For some families, structured sleep strategies can improve rest and overall wellbeing. For others, gentler approaches may feel more aligned. Sleep training is not about forcing a child into one method.
Instead, support focuses on:
Understanding your family's goals
Considering your child’s temperament and age
Respecting attachment and family values
Building sustainable routines
Finding approaches you feel comfortable implementing
My Approach to Sleep Support
Every child is different, which means there is no one-size-fits-all approach to sleep.
I consider:
Your child’s age and developmental stage
Temperament and personality
Family values and parenting preferences
Feeding needs and routines
Emotional wellbeing and stressors
Your goals as a family
Sleep support is collaborative and designed to feel practical, supportive, and achievable.
-
Every child is different, but generally it’s recommended to wait until your child is at least 4 months corrected (based on their due date for premature babies) before beginning sleep training. This helps ensure their circadian rhythms, or natural sleep drives, have had time to develop. Recommendations are always individualized to your child and family.
-
Sleep support is not one-size-fits-all. Some families benefit from structured approaches, while others prefer gentler methods. The goal is to find strategies aligned with your child’s needs and your family’s values.
-
Gentle sleep training approaches can be effective, though progress may occur more gradually than highly structured methods. Consistency and choosing strategies appropriate for your child are often more important than following a specific philosophy.
-
Because I am a Registered Social Worker, some families may be able to access coverage through extended health benefits. Coverage varies by provider and plan.
-
You do not need to let your baby cry it out. I work from a variety of methods and ensure that you feel comfortable and confident in the plan and the method you choose. There are options for gentle methods, but all involve some form of crying, your involvement as the parent in the biggest difference between the methods.
